Raipur: AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday praised ‘Chhattisgarh model of development’, saying that it helped transform the lives of farmers and rural people in the state.

Addressing the ‘Mahila Samridhi Sammelan’ in Bhilai, nearly 40 km from here, Ms Gandhi said that the Chhattisgarh model of development was now discussed in the country.

“Today, the farmers of Chhattisgarh are happy. Farming in Chhattisgarh has become a profitable occupation as the farmers are receiving the highest price of paddy in the country through the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana’”, she said.

Agriculture is now attracting people from other professions due to this.

She said that this was evident from the fact that the number of people engaged in farming activities in the state was growing by the day.

She said that the millet mission was yielding benefits on multiple levels, which was being appreciated across the country and abroad.

The Congress leader said that stray cattle were a common problem across the country. Women have to guard their fields at night.

But, in Chhattisgarh, this problem has been resolved through ‘Gauthans’ (cattle shed projects).

“I say this with conviction at every opportunity I get that the solution to this problem lies in the Chhattisgarh model of development”, she said.

She also praised the leadership in Chhattisgarh terming the leadership as ‘service oriented’.

In this time of inflation, Chhattisgarh government’s efforts have brought some respite to the people of the state whereas the soaring inflation has brought misery to people across the country, she said.

The Chhattisgarh government has undertaken several measures to bring ease and comfort to the people of the state at this time of crisis, she added.

She said that as soon as Congress came to power in Chhattisgarh in 2018, crop loans of farmers were written off.

More than five lakh’pattas’ were distributed and lakhs of people living under below poverty line have received free treatment facilities up to Rs five lakh.

Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel announced implementation of the ‘Chhattisgarh Mahtari Cultural Promotion Scheme’, which aims to develop cultural, historical heritage and tourist places in the state.
