Kozhikode: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has lost control over the police and the system is in a mess, according to KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran. Inaugurating  the installation ceremony of the new DCC president T. Siddique here on Wednesday, he said the police, who have to protect the public, were    abusing and threatening them.

“The dalits were being tortured. When two dalit sisters were jailed in Kannur, the dalit leaders, who tried to submit a petition to the chief minister were stripped in public. Third-degree methods have become a daily affair.  V.S. Achuthanandan, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan  and the CPI have criticised  Pinarayi saying he has no control over them,” said Mr Sudheeran.

He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the currency crisis which has affected the poor, not the rich.

He  hoped that the new leaders at the district level would strengthen the party. The function was presided over by outgoing president K.C. Abu.

MPs M.K. Raghavan and M.I. Shanavas and KPCC general secretaries Suma Balakrishnan, P.M. Suresh Babu, N. Subrahmanian, K.P. Anil Kumar, K. Jayanth and DCC general secretaries Pramod Kakkattil and P.M. Abdu Rahiman spoke.
