Chennai: Those who have sought DMK ticket to contest the 2016 Assembly elections from southern districts include retired DIG John Nicolson and former Speaker Avudaiappan, besides former ministers and MPs.

The former IPS officer asked the DMK leadership to nominate him in Padmanabhapuram, Palayamkottai, Ambasamudram, Nanguneri or Tenkasi.

Former minister Suresh Rajan and former MP Austin sought ticket from Kanyakumari and Nagercoil seats. Former Speaker Avudaiappan asked for Ambasamudram seat.

DMK chief M. Karunanidhi interviewed partymen from southern districts of Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. Besides the DMK chief, party general secretary K. Anbazhagan, treasurer M.K. Stalin, principal secretary K. Duraimurugan and organising secretary R.S. Bharathi are in the interview panel.

The candidates said the key questions were on the political situation in the constituency, winning prospects and the background of the candidate.
