Kerala governor's visit to Rajnath Singh keeps rumour mill spinning
Chances are high that the governor might have apprised him of Kannur violence.
Thiruvananthapuram: Governor P. Sathasivam called on Union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday.
Sources said it was a routine meeting. But it is believed that the Governor might have apprised the minister of the political violence in Kannur.
Last week, a three-member BJP delegation led by O. Rajagopal MLA had given a memorandum to Justice Sathasivam seeking his intervention to enforce Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Kannur.
But contrary to their expectations, he forwarded the petition to the chief minister to act, much to their chagrin. He also sought a detailed report on the killings and violence in Kannur from Raj Bhavan officials.
After meeting the home minister, the governor told reporters that it was just a ‘routine’ meeting.
“Whenever the governor is in the national capital, he visits Mr Singh. He had left for New Delhi on Saturday and will return late Monday night. We have not been informed about the purpose of his visit,” said a Raj Bhavan source.
BJP state general secretaries Sobha Surendran and M. T. Ramesh had attacked the Governor and asked him to quit if he was scared of Pinarayi Vijayan.
Reports coming from Delhi reveal that the governor will be back after attending a party a relative of former Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan hosts.
