Coimbatore: BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit today said the state’s rights on Cauvery have been safeguarded with the supreme court recently approving the draft scheme drawn up by the Centre. The apex court recently put its seal of approval on the Centre’s draft Cauvery Management Scheme for smooth distribution of water among the four southern riparian states, saying the scheme should be be taken to its “logical end”.

The party has decided to celebrate the victory by organising meetings in 40 places, BJP state unit president Tamilisai Soundarajan told reporters at the airport here.

The apex court, in its verdict delivered on February 16, had asked the Centre to frame the Cauvery management scheme, including creation of the Cauvery Managament Board.

Despite finding a legal solution to the river water row, Karnataka chief minister-designate Kumarasamy was not ready to release Cauvery water and wanted to hold talks, she said.

Tamil Nadu would get water as per the apex court verdict, she asserted.

Referring to the hike in fuel prices, she said Dharmendra Pradhan has already proposed to bring petrol and diesel under the goods and service tax.
