TTV Dhinakaran voice samples from TV interviews
Though the Delhi police sought Mr Dhinakaran's voice sample during a hearing in May, he refused to provide the same.
Chennai: T. T. V. Dhinakaran might have refused to provide his voice samples in connection with the Election Commission bribery case, but the Delhi police’s crime branch has found a novel way to get the samples.
The cops have written to four prominent Tamil news television channels to share videos of Dhinakaran’s interview to facilitate conduct of voice sample test. The crime branch wants voice samples of Dhinakaran to authenticate the “recorded conversation” between the AIADMK deputy general secretary and alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar.
Though the Delhi police sought Mr Dhinakaran’s voice sample during a hearing in May, he refused to provide the same. And now, police has found a novel way to test the voice samples and have knocked on the doors of the television channels, to whom the AIADMK leader had given elaborate sit-in interviews in the run up to the April 12 R K Nagar bypolls cancelled by the Election Commission.
Dhinakaran was arrested and put behind bars for almost a month after Delhi police filed a case alleging that he attempted to influence Election Commission officials to get a favorable order for his faction in the “Two Leaves” symbol case through the conman. The Delhi police alleged Chandrasekhar had sought Rs 50 crore for the deal and Rs 10 crore, which was allegedly paid to him as advance, was recovered from his possession.
Sources in the Delhi police refused to name the channels whose help have been sought to get the voice samples. “We need to make the EC bribery case watertight and to prove all allegations, we need to authenticate the voice of Dhinakaran and Chandrasekhar. Since Dhinakaran refused to give his voice samples, we have to look for other options and we will succeed,” a senior Delhi police source said.
While the court asked him to give voice sample, Dhinakaran challenged the maintainability of the plea and later refused to provide voice sample.
