KARIMNAGAR: Congress women wing of the district slammed the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre for being inactive in taking action regarding the atrocities against women being taken place for the past month in Manipur.

DCC chief Satya Prasanna Reddy, along with party women leaders, staged a protest against the Centre and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Indira Chowk in Karimnagar on Saturday.

She alleged that there was no safety for women and girl children in the BJP-ruled states. Even though several incidents of atrocities were coming to light across the country, the BJP government utterly failed in taking a hardline against the accused, she said.

She said that it was shameful on the part of the state and Central governments regarding the incident that took place on the wife of an Indian soldier in Manipur, which has pushed women and girl children in the state into a feeling of insecurity.

Instead of waiting for the court’s judgment, the BJP government must take immediate action to punish the culprits on the spot to prevent such heinous crimes in the future, she demanded.

Congress women leaders Lavanya, Kavitha, Bharathamma, Jakku Satya, Sandhya, Shakuntala, Sujatha, Jyothi, Latha and Maha Lakshmi took part in the protest.
