Hyderabad: BRS’ Malkajgiri MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao is set to face the axe from party ranks over his scathing attack on finance minister T. Harish Rao on Monday, with party sources saying that the leadership took a serious view of the issue, deciding to expel him.

The demand for sacking Hanumantha Rao grew louder among party ranks, with MLCs T. Bhanu Prasad Rao and M.S. Prabhakar Rao lodging a complaint with the party leadership on Tuesday, calling for Hanumantha Rao to be sacked.

However, Hanumantha Rao, who attacked Harish Rao in a media address in Tirumala, continued to remain defiant, albeit toning down his criticism of the BRS leadership on Tuesday.

Discussing the issue in Tirupati on Tuesday, he reiterated the demand for the Medak ticket to his son, assuring that he will ensure his son, Mynampally Rohit Rao’s win.

“As a father, my son is important to me. If anyone creates troubles for my son, I will definitely retaliate,” Hanumantha Rao said, adding that he will decide his future course of action after returning to Hyderabad on Wednesday.

While Hanumantha Rao was given a ticket by the party, there is currently an impasse as he insisted that tickets be given to him and his son. His future course of action remains unclear.

Meanwhile, the BRS leadership is reportedly considering Mothe Sobhan Reddy, a trade union leader and husband of GHMC Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Reddy, to take Hanumantha Rao’s place as the party’s candidate for the Malkajgiri seat. Marri Rajashekar Reddy, nephew of minister Ch. Malla Reddy, is also under consideration.
