Bhopal: Congress on Friday announced to launch a drive in Madhya Pradesh to convince the voters to fulfil the party’s poll promises by distributing its election manifesto along with water of Ganga among them.

The party has decided to adopt the ‘Ganga Jal’ strategy that had helped Congress return to power in Chhattisgarh after a gap of 15 years in the 2018 assembly polls.

“We plan to go for a door-to-door campaign in the Malwa region in the coming two-three days distributing ‘Ganga Jal’ along with the leaflets containing the six guarantees of the party to every family”, Congress spokesman K K Mishra said on Friday.

He said that the plan was being given the final shape.

The party’s decision to swear by ‘Ganga Jaal’ before the people to fulfil promises made by Congress if voted to power in Madhya Pradesh in the year-end assembly elections comes in the wake of ruling BJP questioning the credibility of the grand old party in walking the talk.

BJP has however taken a jibe at the Congress for taking help of ‘Ganga Jal’ to sell its poll promises to the voters, saying that the move would hardly help the grand old party in view of its ‘poor’ track record in the area.

Congress had failed to fulfil its promise of waiving crop loan of the farmers to the tune of Rs two lakh each when it was in power in the state, BJP state secretary Rajneesh Agrawal said.

Congress had lost its public credibility due to this, he added.

He warned that the ‘Ganga Jal’ politics being adopted by Congress may boomerang on the party.

He recalled how Congress had promised prohibition in Chhattisgarh, if voted to power in that state, in the last assembly elections.

BJP in Chhattisgarh has now put the Bhupesh Baghel government in the dock for having failed to fulfil the promise so far.
