Tamil Nadu: DMK readies all district units for by-election campaign
The DMK leader had not participated in public meetings or functions for the last two weeks.
Chennai: The DMK is planning to bring all district units around three constituencies, Aravakurichi, Thanjavur and Thiruparankundram going for bypolls on November 19, for campaign.
In a press release here, the DMK headquarters said the district secretaries, functionaries and cadre of the entire delta districts should go to Thanjavur to work for the DMK candidate.
Partymen in Thanjavur, Tiruchy, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts have been asked to focus on Thanjavur. The district units of Karur, Tirunvannamalai, Dindigul, Namakkal, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur must campaign for the bypoll in Aravakurichi. Besides, the DMK units in Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram have been requested to work for the party in Thirupprankundram bypoll.
Villupuram (central) district unit would work for the Congress nominee and Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy at Nellithoppu seat in the Union Territory. Leader of opposition and DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin would take over the campaign in bypolls. However, it is not known party chief M. Karunanidhi would campaign.
The DMK leader had not participated in public meetings or functions for the last two weeks. Although, Karunanidhi is regularly issuing statements on major issues and giving interviews to magazines, he has avoided public meetings. Stalin had said the election campaign schedule would be drawn after consultations with the party leader.
DMK allies Congress, IUML, MMK and Kongunadu Makkal Katchi had announced their support to the Dravidian party. The decision of TMC which tried to form an alliance with the DMK for the local body polls is not known.
