Hyderabad: Not one to miss out on any opportunity that comes their way, more so with the Assembly elections round the corner, politicians of every hue have taken the ‘Vanabhojanam’ route, marking Karthika Masam festive spirit, to reach out to the people, nay the voters.

This year’s Vanabhojanam has evolved into a strategic focal point for political parties eager to engage with the public. The traditional feast held outdoors has become a large affair this time around, with parties enthusiastically sponsoring events held as part of the festive celebrations. Apparently, the intention is to connect with constituents and secure votes by addressing local issues directly.

However, the celebration getting a political colour has drawn mixed opinions of the people, who celebrate the festival with religious fervour.

While some appreciated the accessibility it provides to them and the political leaders, others voiced concern with regard to the intentions of the politicians, who are turning up at cultural gatherings.

"It's good to see leaders participating in our cultural events. But it would be better if they address our issues sincerely and not just during festivals," said Sri Lakshmi from Kalyannagar.

Meanwhile, a politician said, "Vanabhojanam is an integral part of our cultural fabric. By actively participating and contributing to these events, we aim to foster a stronger bond with the community. It's not just about votes but about understanding and addressing the needs of our people."

“Karthika Masam is a time for unity and celebration. We see this as an opportunity to bridge the gap between politicians and the public. Our presence during Vanabhojanam signifies our commitment to being accessible and accountable to the people we serve,” said another local leader.
