Khammam: Police on alert for gram panchayat elections
Candidates are making attempts to get sympathy by evolving various strategies.
Khammam: The second phase of gram panchayat elections to be held on January 25 is expected to be in sensitive areas.
Candidates are making attempts to get sympathy by evolving various strategies.
For instance, a case has been filed in Tallada police station by B. Rambabu, follower of the candidate for the Venkatagiri GP post that the rival candidate’s followers attacked and injured him.
Police took the complaint and started an inquiry. They called the complainant’s relatives and others and enquired about the attack.
However, it transpired that the complainant sustained injuries in an accident while riding his two-wheeler in an inebriated condition. He lodged a complaint at the instance of the followers of a candidate.
The police warned Rambabu and let him go. The incident is an eye-opener for the cops and vigilance has been stepped up in all the villages where elections are being held on January 25 to avert the possibility of clashes.
On the other hand, sarpanches for 25 gram panchayats, where elections were to be held in the third phase on January 30, were elected unanimously. There are 12 GPs in Raghunathapalem mandal in the list. TRS won all of the 12 GPs and Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar worked hard to get unanimity.
Villages including Sivaigudem, Hariathanda, Badhyathanda, Korlaboduthanda, Lachiramthanda, Mangyathanda, Putanithanda, VK Banjara, Koyachelaka, G K Banjara, Donabanda, Ramuluthanda and S Banjara elected their sarpanches unanimously.
Mr Kumar visited every village and assured development. There are 37 villages in Raghunahtapalem mandal and the MLA plans to ensure TRS win in a majority of the GPs where elections will be held.
Interestingly, there are two public representatives from the same family in Bodulabanda under Nelakondapalli.
Anagani Anita was elected as sarpanch for the village and her husband A. Narasimha Rao is already the MPTC of the village.
He was elected for the post in 2014 elections. The mandal parishad elections will be held later.
