Kannur: The Thalasserry district sessions court on Wednesday granted  conditional bail to CPM district secretary P. Jayarajan in the murder case of RSS leader Kathirur Manoj.  Judge V.G. Anilkumar said in his order  that the bail was given under the condition that the CPM leader should keep off Kannur district for two months or till the chargesheet was  filed. He  should not influence the witnesses and should report before the CBI officials whenever demanded.

Mr Jayarajan had moved the bail petition on March 15 after a month of his arrest. He was allowed bail on the surety of two persons with a bond of Rs 50,000 each. Meanwhile, it is learnt  that the CBI would approach the High Court against the sessions court verdict. CBI public prosecutor K. Krishnakumar had argued that the sessions court did not have  the power to bail out Mr Jayarajan as the petition to defer the case to HC was  being considered in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the relatives of Manoj are planning to move the Supreme Court pleading that the district sessions court acted beyond its  power.

RSS district Sharirik Shikshan Pramukh, E. Manoj, was murdered in Kathirur near Thalasserry on September 1, 2014. Manoj was the fifth accused in the murder attempt carried out against Mr Jayarajan in 1999.
