Chennai: At the first year anniversary event of Edappadi K. Palaniswami's government, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvem took a euphemistic jibe at actor Kamal Haasan and called him 'Karuththu Kanthasamy' (a comedy character in Tamil movie), on Friday.

He also invoked actor Rajinikanth and said that the persons who do not have any concerns for the people are talking about 'system'. However, Panneerselvem refrained from mentioning the names of mega stars who have been dreaming of CM seat.

“Persons who are opposing us are in a state of shock. They are jolted by the fact that we had successfully retained the party and its cadres after the death of Jayalalitha,” he said. Panneerselvem also said that the government had successfully completed many schemes announced J. Jayalalitha and the government would complete its full term. “We are Arjunas who learned from Jayalalitha,” he said.

Listing out the Central government awards received by the state, he said, Tamil Nadu had received the best police station award, best agricultural university award and best e-governance award among others.

“To help women who had been toiling to complete household chores, Jayalalitha had given grinder, fan and mixer grinder. By continuing her women-oriented schemes, the present government has been giving subsidy to buy two-wheelers to help working women,” Panneerselvem added.

Apart from quoting MGR songs and folk tales, the Deputy Chief Minister also invoked Mahabharatha and Ramayana to warn his enemies. “AIADMK will beat arrows shot by enemies like Arjuna's and Lord Rama's arrows defeated 'villains' arrows in Mahabharata and Ramayana. Jayalalitha's soul will act as Arjuna and Rama to defeat our enemies. We have no fear of Opposition parties,” Panneerselvem said.
