Thiruvananthapuram: The AICC may spring a surprise in the  choice of the Opposition Leader.  It is considering KPCC vice-president V. D. Satheeshan, Vattiyoorkavu MLA K. Muraleedharan and Thrikkakara MLA P. T. Thomas for the post as it has lost trust in the current lot of senior leaders – Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala  and V. M. Sudheeran, according to a source close to Mr. Shashi Tharoor, MP.

Mr Tharoor, who was summoned by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to New Delhi on Monday, urged the AICC to take action against the KPCC leaders responsible for the poll debacle. Sources said that the AICC leadership was keen to know about the young leaders to be brought to the forefront.

He asked the  AICC leadership to send  a team to the state and zero in on a leader. Ms Sonia Gandhi sought the opinion of Mr. Tharoor whether Mr. Chennithala would be able to take the allies of the UDF into confidence if he was made the Opposition Leader. Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi never expected the LDF to get  such a massive victory, as the KPCC leadership had not told them about the  possibility, it is learnt.
