The man who walked into each household in his constituency: Thomas Isaac
He made his presence felt in Kerala politics with the people's plan campaign in 1996.
Alappuzha: An academician and economist, Dr Thomas Isaac is known as a politician with innovative ideas. He was the finance minister in the previous LDF dispensation too. Born to T.P. Mathew and Saramma Mathew in Alappuzha, he reached the CPM through its feeder outfit Students Federation of India (SFI) in 1971. He made his presence felt in Kerala politics with the people's plan campaign in 1996.
The man with a humble smile might have walked into each household in his constancy at least twice without any reason during the past 15 years. He understands the pulse of people so quickly and never seen gibbering or blabbering. He strikes a chord even with a school kid so easily, which helped him win here for the fourth straight time.
He deserves kudos for resolving waste disposal issues to a great extent in the constituency by setting up aerobic composting units and creating awareness among people against dumping waste in public places through his ‘Clean City,
Clean Home’ campaign. His organic farming initiative was also an instant hit. "He must get it," says Ms Mathew, recalling the young activist who inaugurated a sit-in before his father's shop while he was in college. “He never compromises on anything or anyone.”
