Bengaluru: While not everyone is convinced the Congress-JD(S) coalition government is here to stay, fueling talk about its longevity, the new dispensation has bigger challenges ahead in matters of administration.

While the JD(S) has decided not to meddle  in the internal affairs of the Congress and the Congress high command is said to be very serious about ensuring smooth functioning of the coalition government, this  may not insulate it against the many challenges that lie ahead.

With both parties generously offering freebies to the poor in the run-up to the Assembly poll, the coalition partners now have the daunting task of  delivering on their promises which will be implemented through a Common Minimum Programme.

Going by official sources, the new government could face administrative problems in implementing new schemes and bringing  the economy back on track as the state currently has a huge debt to the tune of over Rs 2.5 lakh crore.

Besides, the government has to make provision for various welfare schemes announced by the last government like the bhagyas and Indira Canteens.
