Vijayawada: Former Speaker Nadendla Manohar’s meeting with Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan in Amaravati has raised eyebrows.

Pawan Kalyan’s two-day tour of Vijayawada has also made the ruling Telugu Desam sit up. Though Pawan Kalyan and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu both attended a programme at a temple in Namburu in Guntur district they did not speak with each other. The Jana Sena chief has indicated to his party cadres and leaders that he will be mostly staying in the capital Amaravati till the elections are over.

TD cadres and leaders had at one point believed that Pawan Kalyan may reunite with the Telugu Desam as allying with the YSRC Congress (hinted at by a former YSRC MP on Friday) wouldn’t give him enough mileage, and would instead tarnish his image. “The way Pawan Kalyan was handled by TD leaders deeply hurt his feelings. The TD chief noticed that and wanted to patch up with Pawan Kalyan,” a senior TD leader said on condition of anonymity.

In this backdrop, Mr Manohar’s meeting with Pawan Kalyan at his residence on Saturday, gains significance. It seems like Pawan Kalyan wants to attract the Kamma segment of the Capital region.
