Hubballi: A few months after renting a house in the city to strengthen the party base in North Karnataka, JD(S) state president H.D. Kumaraswamy has intensified his poll campaign by adopting PM Modi’s style to attract youth through social media and also signalled that he might contest from a seat in the region along with his native Ramanagar constituency in the Assembly polls next year.

He  held a three-hour interaction in Dharwad with college students who are members of his Facebook account with a special focus on problems confronting the region. Responding to queries from PU students of various colleges, he promised optimum use of the underutilised Suvarna Soudha building in Belagavi saying he would take  oath here if his party comes to power.

Refusing to divulge the constituency from where he is planning to contest in the region, he said that his first priority is to ensure the JD(S) comes to the power on its own and fields candidates in all 224 constituencies without forging an alliance with other parties. Stressing the need for being active on social media to bring about change in politics, he said the JD(S) will create awareness among party leaders and workers on how to use it for better proximity with people.

“PM Narendra Modi had contested from Gujarat and UP during the last Lok Sabha elections. I will enter the poll fray from two constituencies in the elections next year as per the advice of the people. Party leader Basavaraj Horatti will take a final decision after a discussion with other leaders,” he said.

With an eye on the youth vote bank, he has promised to encourage girls in rural parts of North Karnataka to do graduation and higher studies by setting up more government colleges and appointing skilled teachers. Stating that infrastructure development and imparting quality education in government schools and colleges is his prime motto, the JD(S) leader said more attention will be given to generate employment and to stop migration from rural areas by setting up industries in Tier-II cities in the region.
