Vijayawada: As Andhra Pradesh is getting ready for municipal polls, the Telugu Desam and Jana Sena are likely to enter into a poll alliance to prevent the YSRC from steamrolling the Opposition.

Both parties suffered a humiliating defeat in the recent elections with the TD winning 23 Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats and the Jana Sena managing just one Assembly seat.

Both parties are in desperate need of support to establish themselves politically securing a large number of urban local polls.

Political analysts say both the parties were supposed to enter into a pre-poll alliance for the Assembly  elections but they  hesitated to make the first move despite a lot of speculation and this cost them heavily.

Moreover, both parties underestimated the extent of support for the YSR Congress among the electorate.

Sources say that there is now a lot of pressure from local leaders on the leadership of both parties to enter into an alliance and contest together  by setting aside all inhibitions and past history of tagetting each other on various issues.

Former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is learnt to have mooted the proposal to enter into an alliance with the Jana Sena for municipal polls with his confidants and there was not much resistance given the party’s precarious situation, especially with many leaders seen to be switching to the BJP.

Sources from Jana Sena say that the party cadre are demanding an alliance with the TD as early as possible so that the cadre from both the parties can work together.
