MIM is most secular: Akbaruddin Owaisi
Akbaruddin Owa-isi said that because of differences among the local cadre, the AIMIM had become weak in recent past.
Karimnagar: The only secular party in India is the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, claimed five-time MLA and party floor leader in TS Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi on Tuesday.
Addressing a gathering to mark the 44th death anniversary of former MIM president Abdul Wahed Owaisi at a private function hall in Karimnagar on Wednesday, Mr Akba-ruddin Owaisi said that when Wahed Owaisi revived the party in 1958 at a time former prime minster Jawaharlal Nehru asked him to wind up the party.
“Abdul Wahed Owa-isi did not heed Nehru’s advice. For this, he had to spend 11-and-a-half months in jail,” the MLA said.
He said that Muslims are being discriminated against across India, and though they are trying their best to live a dignified and respectable life.
“There is no safety for women in the country. Every day, incidents of child abuse, harassment and violence against women are being reported. Muslim youths must come forward to protect women and girl children,” he said.
Mr Akbaruddin Owa-isi said that because of differences among the local cadre, the AIMIM had become weak in recent past. “The party which had won nine corporation seats al-ong with two co-option members won only two seats in the last municipal elections. We have to bury our differences and revive the party,” he said.
The AIMIM plans to contest all the 60 divisions in the Karimna-gar Municipal Corpor-ation and plans to give a tough fight to the BJP. “Even though we may lose the elections, we must not allow the BJP candidates to win,” Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi said.
He appealed to the youth not to lose heart but strive hard to strengthen the party across the district and ensure that AIMIM candidates register a massive victory in the coming municipal polls.
