Chennai: The Union Government is toying with the idea of appointing CH Vidyasagar Rao as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu. The process in this regard seems to have begun already. Mr Rao, currently the Governor of Maharashtra, holds additional charge of Tamil Nadu after K. Rosaiah’s tenure ended in August this year.

Mr Rao, former Union Minister and a senior BJP leader who hails from Telangana, is likely to be transferred as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu since the Union Government feels that the state should have an active governor especially when there is a lot of political churning following the death of J Jayalalithaa.

Sources said the top brass of the Union Government are considering this option actively to bring the veteran BJP leader from Karnataka D.H. Shankaramurthy as the Governor of Maharashtra.

“Since Mr Rao handled deftly the political situation that arose out of Jayalalithaa’s hospitalisation and her subsequent death, the Union Government feels he would be the right person to hold the fort in Chennai,” a senior BJP leader said. The speculation intensified on Friday after Mr Shankaramurthy met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday evening.
