Belagavi: Belagavi MLA, Feroz Sait, who recently took over as chairman of the Belagavi Urban Development Authority (BUDA) denied on Saturday that he had been issued a notice by the High Court Bench in Dharwad for holding an office of profit, as claimed by BJP leader, Anil Benake.

Accusing Mr Benake of spreading lies, he claimed the former was afraid of his “illegal land deals” being exposed ever since he took over as BUDA chief.

Mr Benake had recently claimed that the High Court bench had also issued notices to the Election Commission of India and the Deputy Commissioner of Belagavi on the office of profit held by Mr Sait in response to a petition that he had filed before it.

But Mr Said said neither the EC nor anyone else had received notices. “Under the rules the post of BUDA chairman which I hold, is  given to legislators. As many as 30 legislators in Karnataka  currently hold posts of chairmen of various corporations and boards. Some even  hold posts of Parliamentary Secretaries.  Benake is only trying to mislead people in view of the coming elections,” he charged,  challenging the BJP leader to contest against him if he had the guts.

Mr Benake is one of  six BJP leaders in the race for a party ticket from Belagavi North.
