Kurnool: Telugu Desam national vice-president Kotla Jaya Suryaprakash Reddy on Thursday demanded immediate release of water from Muchumarri lift irrigation scheme to KC Canal for benefitting farmers in the region.

Addressing media in Kurnool along with other TD leaders, he observed that ruling YSRC leaders are not paying attention to the plight of farmers between 0 to 80 kilometres of KC Canal. As a result, they have failed to bring water from Muchumarri lift irrigation scheme upstream of KC Canal.

Suryaprakash Reddy asked KC Canal officials why accumulated debris, such as algae and creepers, have not been removed from the KC Canal cross regulator in Padidampadu.

He said people of Kurnool are facing a drinking water crisis in Kurnool, as the city's summer storage tank has insufficient water. In this regard, he pointed out that several approved projects for bringing drinking water to Kurnool have been neglected.

The TD national vice-president demanded that funds be allotted for pending works related to Hundri Neeva Suujala Sravanti project. Further, the non-functioning motors at Allur and Padidampadu must be replaced to provide water to farmers in upper regions of the KC canal.

Kurnool parliament segment party in-charge B.T. Naidu opposed discontinuation of G.O. 365 on August 3, 2020, which has resulted in loss of irrigation water for thousands of acres of farmland in the district. He wanted authorities to release 600 cusecs of water to Tungabhadra Lower-Level Canal for supporting farmers of Yemmiganur and Mantralayam.

Kurnool district party joint in-charge Vaikuntham Prabhakar Chowdhary, Kodumur in-charge A. Prabhakar, party state secretary P.G. Narasimhulu Yadav and State BC Cell vice president J. Tirupal Babu were present.
