Rajkumar Rao in the critically acclaimed 2017 film “Newton†played the role of a govt official deputed to conduct free and fair elections
Hyderabad: Election Commission of India has decided to make Actor Rajkumar Rao its national icon ahead of assembly elections in five states in November and 2024 general elections. The official announcement to this effect will be made on 26th October, Thursday.
Popular public figures are designated as national icons of the election commission of India with the aim to create awareness and motivating the masses to actively participate in the electoral process and exercise their voting rights in fair manner. Other notable ECI icons have been MS Dhoni, Aamir Khan, Pankaj Tripathi and Sachin Tendulkar.
Incidentally, Rajkumar Rao in the critically acclaimed 2017 film “Newton” had played the role of a government official deputed to conduct free and fair elections in Maoist infested region in central India. He manages to hold a free and fair elections despite various obstacles. He is set to reprise a similar role now, albeit, in real life.
