CPM floats BLF to take on BJP, TRS
Yechury said the CPM believed that politics was not based on individual leaders but on the strength of policies.
Hyderabad: Stressing that the people can get social and economic justice if they unite and fight against communal forces, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury has said the party was engaged in building such a front involving democratic, secular and Left forces to take on the BJP at the Centre.
Launching the CPM-led Bahujana Left Front (BLF) comprising a score of political parties to fight against the TRS, Congress and the BJP in TS on Thursday, Mr Yechury said the CPM believed that politics was not based on individual leaders but on the strength of policies. “It is possible for the majority to get justice only through a front like the BLF,” he said.
Referring to the CPI keeping itself away from the front, Mr Yechury said he had met CPI secretary-general Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and invited the party into the BLF to strengthen it. Quoting a recent report which stated that 73 per cent of GDP was in the hands of 1 per cent of the population, Mr Yechury said such economic inequalities have to go.
CPM state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said the BLF was not against upper castes, and was aimed at empowering the downtrodden and oppressed sections of society.
