Aurobindo Ahsram, Auroville fascinate PM Narendra Modi
Spent time also under ancient banyan tree.
Puducherry: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Aurobindo Ahsram and paid floral tributes at the memorial of the spiritual leader. He arrived in the union territory of Puducherry on Sunday and was received by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and his cabinet colleagues at the Puducherry airport.
The Prime Minister, attired in a spotless white Kurta-pajama, drove straight to the Aurobindo Ashram. After paying floral tribute at the memorial of the spiritual leader, he meditated for a few minutes. He also visited the room where Aurobindo carried out his spiritual experiment, and also interacted with the children of the International School of Education run by the ashram before leaving for Auroville.
At the international township, which celebrates its golden jubil-ee this year, Modi received a warm welcome from Karan Singh, chairman of the Auroville Foundation, and members of the Auroville foundation. The PM was seen keenly going through the exhibition highlighting the journey of Auroville over the years and interacting with the members.
Mr Modi also visited the Matrimandir and spent some moments in its inner chamber. He also spent a few minutes time near the 100-year-old banyan tree which is considered as the geographical centre of Auroville. The PM who spent nearly two hours at Auroville, left for Puducherry airport to attend the Public meeting organised by the BJP.
Before leaving for Chennai, the Prime Minister had a brief discussion with Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy at the airport. AIADMK legislature party leader A. Anbazhagan also met the Prime Minister at the airport and submitted a memorandum urging the Mr Modi to take steps for the waiver of the loan dues of Puducherry.
“We are missing the presence of our PM already. In a short time he spent with us he touched our hearts and minds with his dignified, energetic and powerful presence. Puducherry will benefit from the visit of the Prime Minister, said Kiran Bedi in her Twitter handle after the visit of the Prime Minister.
