Congress legislators join TRS
The two legislators were offered pink khanduvas by the Chief Minister who welcomed them into the party.
Hyderabad: As announced, two Congress legislators Puvvada Ajay Kumar (Khammam MLA) and Farooq Hussain (MLC) on Monday quit the Congress to join the TRS in the presence of Chief Minister and TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The two legislators were offered pink khanduvas by the Chief Minister who welcomed them into the party.
Mr Kumar is the sixth Congress legislator who has defected to the ruling party in the last two years. Congress had 21 MLAs after the 2014 election, of which two passed away and six left it for the TRS.
Similarly with the departure of Mr Hussain, the strength of the Congress in the Legislative Council has been reduced to seven.
Mr Hussain, a native of Siddipet and said to be a childhood friend of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has been making moves to join TRS ever since it came to power.
Reacting to the defections, Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao said it only exposed the unscrupulous nature of the leaders and it has become a fashion to change parties like one changes a shirt.
