Faruqui says \'up to God to forgive\' Raja Singh
HYDERABAD: Munawar Faruqui, the stand-up comedian whose show in the city on August 20 set off a chain of events that culminated in the arrest of Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh under the Preventive Detention Act, and the legislator’s suspension from the BJP, on Thursday reacted to the developments in the city since his sold-out show this past weekend.
Taking to Twitter, Faruqui said, “Mehboob e khuda shayad usse maaf bhi kar dete, Lekin khuda ke jalaal se usse khuda hi bachaye (The Prophet could well forgive him, but it is up to the God to save him from God’s wrath),” in an apparent reference to Raja Singh’s controversial video that led to widespread protests in the Old City of Hyderabad.
He ended his tweet with “Hyd” with an emoji of two hands in prayer.
Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Delhi, asked the state government there not to allow Faruquis’ scheduled show in the national capital on August 28. The VHP said its workers, along with those of the Bajrang Dal, will hold a protest if the show was allowed.
“His last show in Hyderabad took place amidst protests from Hindutva groups who said that the comedian had previously made fun of Hindu Gods,” the VHP said.
