Thummala Nageshwar to contest elections, but no clarity on seat and party

Khammam: Former minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao said on Friday that he would contest the next elections but did not specify the constituency and the likely party label.

“I will contest the elections to just clean the people’s feet with Godavari waters,” he said at a public meeting.

Nageshwar Rao was welcomed by his supporters who came in a large number of cars and bikes to Khammam. He reiterated that he wanted to contest the polls and “do justice to the people” – and that his aim was not to “enjoy the power.”

“I have a 40 years’ political career and worked for the welfare and development of the people,” he said.

In his speech, the former minister neither took the name of chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao nor the BRS.

Notably, BRS MP, Nama Nageshwar Rao, held talks with Thummala in Hyderabad. The BRS denied ticket to Thummala and announced K. Upender Reddy’s name as the party candidate from Paleru. Earlier, Nama Nageshwar Rao had said he would contest from Paleru and expressed confidence that he would get the BRS ticket.
