BRS Keen to Poach Second-rung Leaders of Opposition Parties
Adilabad: The ruling BRS is keen to induct the second-rung leaders and cadre from the opposition Congress and BJP parties. BRS leaders were approaching opposition party leaders who were denied poll tickets, seeking their support for their candidates who were facing tough times.
The party’s top leadership is also reaching out to the leaders who played an active role in the Telangana movement. It is said that mediators from the BRS, at the behest of minister T. Harish Rao, approached a senior BJP leader who was denied a party ticket and sought his support for the BRS candidate in the erstwhile Adilabad district.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Ch. Suhasini Reddy who was denied the party ticket from Adilabad said she will take a decision about her future course of action by consulting with her supporters.
Jitta Balakrishna Reddy, who recently joined the BRS, is also trying to bring back to BRS the leaders who worked along with him in the Telangana agitation. As the BRS candidates were facing headwinds in a few constituencies in the Adilabad district, the BRS was reportedly offering nominated posts to senior leaders of the BJP and Congress if they joined the ruling party and extended support to its candidates in the elections.
On the other hand, BJP candidates have intensified their election campaign in seven segments. Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao, the BJP candidate from Boath Assembly constituency, has intensified the campaign in the remotest villages, while Payal Shankar who got a ticket from Adilabad has begun the campaign. Palvai Harishbabu from Sirpur (T) and Aleti Maheshwar Reddy were focusing on inducting youth and women into BJP in the Nirmal constituency.
