Jagga Reddy seeks Rs 20,000 cr for Medak local bodies
Elected representatives of local bodies would be in posts till 2024, then the Congress would come to power and sanction Rs 20K crore
HYDERABAD: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president and Sangareddy MLA T. Jayaprakash ‘Jagga’ Reddy dared finance minister T. Harish Rao to allocate Rs 20,000 crore for developmental works of local bodies in undivided Medak district.
“If Harish Rao does so, I will ask my wife and Congress MLC candidate Nirmala to withdraw from the fray,” Jagga Reddy said. Harish Rao threatened to abolish the MPTC and ZPTC system, when a few elected representatives asked him for funds and powers, he alleged.
Speaking to reporters here at the Congress Legislature Party office on Friday, Jagga Reddy said of 1,027 votes in undivided Medak district, the Congress had only 230 votes, but the party fielded Nirmala to contest against the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). To protect the self respect of local body elected representatives, the Congress was contesting in Medak, he explained.
Elected representatives of local bodies would be in their posts till 2024, then the Congress would come to power and sanction Rs 20,000 crore for local bodies in Medak district, he assured. Jagga Reddy called upon the elected representatives to vote for Nirmala and so that she could fight for funds and powers for them. MPTC and ZPTC members, municipal corporators and councillors became idle after the TRS came to power, he criticised.
