Hyderabad: Come November 29 when all political parties will go silent as per Election Commission rules ahead of the November 30 elections, the BRS plans to make its presence felt among the electorate by celebrating ‘Deeksha Divas’ in a big way to mark the launch of the fast–unto-death by party president K. Chandrashekar Rao on the same day 14 years ago.

As per the Election Commission guidelines, all the parties should stop the campaign 48 hours before the polling day which means 5 pm on November 28.

BRS working president and minister K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday gave a call to the cadre to celebrate the day by hoisting flags on roof tops and organising social service activities.

“Every year we celebrate the event hailing the commitment of KCR to the cause of statehood and his readiness to sacrifice life to achieve it. We must make use of the occasion to remind people of the able leadership of KCR and his fighting spirit that alone made Telangana possible,” he said.

Describing the launch of the fast as a significant chapter in contemporary politics, Rama Rao said that perhaps Chandrashekar Rao was the only politician to ask the people to beat him to death the moment he compromised on the struggle for Telangana.

Rama Rao recollected the journey from Karimnagar, where Chandrashekar Rao launched his fast-unto-death agitation, to the December 9 statement on statehood, and te popular slogan – “KCR savayatro, Telangana jaitra yatro” (It would be either KCR’s funeral procession or Telangana victory rally).

On TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy’s comments on the release of Rythu Bandhu funds, Rama Rao said the same leader had remained silent when the Centre had extended financial assistance to farmers under PM Kisan Yojana.

“He (Revanth Reddy) has no guts to take on Modi and no intent also as he was an RSS product,” the minister said. Asked about the Congress taking objection to his interactive session with unemployed youth at T-Works, a state government facility, Rama Rao made light of it saying that he received some notice from Election Commission and would send reply.
