Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India has emerged as a friend of the world and it has truly emerged as ‘Vishwamitr.’

“A developing India sees itself as ‘Vishwamitr’. India stood with the world after the Covid outbreak and during the pandemic. Today I do not need to tell the world that India is its friend; the world now says India is our friend,” said Modi.

Speaking at an event on the city outskirts, Modi recalled how India overcame immense losses it suffered in the past during its enslavement and attacks on its original and traditional strengths such as yoga, knowledge and ayurveda.

Slavery always targeted the original strengths of societies, he said, adding “but times are changing, and so is India. This is the 'Amrit Kaal' of independence and the work we do will determine the future of the coming generations.”

The Indian government over the past 10 years strived to empower the country's cultural legacy and today, the country is being talked about as a knowledge hub. And it was due to India’s efforts that the UN declared June 21 International Yoga Day, he said.
