Mild tension in run-up to voting day in Warangal and Karimnagar districts
Warangal/Karimnagar: With only two days to end the poll campaign, the political atmosphere is surcharged in various assembly constituencies, resulting in clashes and mild tension in some areas.
Complaints like the tearing away of the flexis of some parties arose in some areas of Warangal and Karimnagar districts.
BRS leaders of the Warangal East constituency supporting sitting MLA Nannanpuneni Narendar are facing a tough time as their opponents -- BJP and Congress – did aggressive campaigning.
In one incident, a Congress publicity vehicle was kept on the road with full sound near the under bridge in Warangal city where BRS candidate and MLA N Narendar’s house was situated. BRS leaders were annoyed and asked the driver to move away. He refused to do so. BRS leaders called the police and forced the driver to take the vehicle away.
Congress candidate Konda Surekha criticised the police action and lodged a complaint with the police commissioner against the cops acting in favour of the BRS MLA.
In another incident, when BJP candidate Errabelli Pradeep Rao participated in the election campaign in Giriprasad Nagar, BRS leaders stopped his publicity vehicle. They engaged in a heated argument with BJP leaders, alleging that BJP men removed some BRS stickers and pasted BJP publicity material there.
Raising slogans against each other, the leaders of both parties clashed with broken beer bottle pieces and stones against each other. Some BJP activists were injured.
Later, the BJP candidate Pradeep Rao lodged a complaint against the BRS activists in the Mills Colony police station.
In Annasagar village of the Hasanparthy Mandal in the Wardhannapet assembly constituency, Congress activists did not allow the BRS vehicles to do the campaigning. When BRS party leaders started arguing, Congress leaders attacked them and allegedly pelted stones at the publicity vehicle.
With a complaint from BRS leaders, police registered the case against Congress activists and started an investigation.
In Sriramgiri village of Nellikuduru mandal in Mahabubabad assembly constituency, Congress leaders arranged a meeting in the village inviting the Congress candidate Murali Naik. When the meeting was about to be held, BRS leaders placed their publicity vehicle there with full sound.
Congress leaders asked the BRS men to take the vehicle away. As this was not done, the Congress men indulged in a heated argument, which led to a clash.
In Mahamutharam Mandal, Congress leader Sirikonda Bakka Rao and his wife, village sarpanch Padma, were participating in the election campaign in Kistapur village. BRS leaders obstructed and attacked them with iron rods, causing bleeding injuries.
Condemning the BRS attack on Congress leaders, Manthani MLA Sridhar Babu lodged a complaint with the police against 28 BRS members.
In Metpally of Korutla assembly constituency, the campaign teams of the BRS and Congress clashed at the old bus stand road near Masjid. Police deployed on duty intervened and brought the situation under control.
