Telangana: All types join the Wakf race

A couple of months ago, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao sent the file to the minorities department, where it is gathering dust.

Hyderabad: Persons having a record and facing cases of misappropriation of Wakf properties, are also in the race to get seat, on the Telangana State Wakf Board.

Mr Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Congress floor leader in the Legislative Council, said that though 19 cases were pending against Syed Shah Ali Akbar Nizamuddin, mutawalli of Dargahs Shah Khamoosh and Ahata Amir Ali, the state government had recently issued orders reinstating him which would allow him to contest in the election. He said the mutawalli enjoyed strong support of MIM, an ally of the TRS.

Mr Abid Rasool Khan, chairman of the Minorities Commission,  said that in the inquiry conducted by the commission with regard to 40 Wakf properties, it was revealed that the mutawallis had misappropriated properties worth hundreds of crores.

He said that when the commission wrote to the Centre asking for a CBI probe into irregularities in the administration of Wakf properties, the Centre had shown its willingness on the condition that the state government gave its consent.
