Howzzat! Sreesanth off to poll turf for BJP
The 33-year-old controversial cricketer can be accused of many things, but not of lacking passion.
KOCHI: There was a troll that did rounds in social media soon after S. Sreesanth was declared as BJP candidate from Thiruvananthapuram, for the Kerala polls. It was an image of him screaming ‘howzzat’. Not for a wicket, but to draw the attention of the Assembly Speaker.
Apparently, such an act wouldn’t be an exaggeration on the former India cricketer should he reach the assembly as an MLA. The 33-year-old controversial cricketer can be accused of many things, but not of lacking passion. That quality alone made him a superstar and that, to an extent, led to his downfall as well.
Sreesanth who appeared calm after his candidature was announced, seemed to have turned over a new leaf. Like a bowler given the second new ball, he’s planning to do things afresh and doesn’t want to be concerned by the bad spells of his past.
Early signs are that he’s learned to adjust to the demands in politics, like a professional cricketer who is asked to do well irrespective of the conditions. He was keen to contest from his home town Tripunithura but showed no signs of dissent when he was given Thiruvananthapuram instead.
Sreesanth was a good dancer even when he was a cricketer. So he did his time in a celebrity dance reality show. Now he’s pursuing an acting career and his debut Bollywood movie, Cabaret by Pooja Bhatt is under production.
With the BCCI life-ban from playing still in place, competitive cricket is a closed chapter for now. But Sreesanth is determined to make a comeback, at least in first-class. Meanwhile, he says he wouldn’t give up on his acting career either. So, if the electorate finds it appropriate the Assembly might get to see some entertainment soon.
