Vijayawada: The State Police Department received a jolt with the attack on Transport Commi-ssioner Balasubrahmanyam. The Department is distressed at not being able to file a case against the accused, as per the directives of the Chief Minister. They say that the department morale, and the prestige and respect of the uniform will be damaged, if no action is taken against the accused.

The police is particular upset by the attitude of TD MP Kesineni Srinivas, MLA Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao and MLC Budda Venkanna. They are feeling helpless because of the fact that a group of public representatives of the ruling party ganged up against a senior IPS officer, used unparliamentarily language against him and hurt his security guards. The representatives carried out the attack claiming that reports had been tampered with, to hide facts about Orange Travels, as it was a competitor to Kesineni Travels.

The IPS Officers’ Association received directions from the CMO, asking them not to react to the issue. Reportedly, the Chief Minister assured the concerned officer that he would personally receive apologies from the accused.

A senior IPS officer, on condition of anonymity, said that he did not know if law and order existed in the newly-formed state, and especially in the capital city, as they had not been able to provide security to a senior IPS officer when he was surrounded and threatened by public representatives of the ruling party, in the presence of the local DCP, another IPS officer. He said that they were helpless, even though the DGP and other senior officers knew about the issue.

He added that the rules that had allowed for a case to be filed against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had come all the way to address public issues in Nandigama, which was his primary right as leader of the opposition, had failed to be effective against leaders of the ruling party when they had attacked an IPS officer. He said that such a disgusting situation had occurred because officials were turning into followers of the ruling party, to gain favour for their positions and postings.
