Congress protests in AP against Rahul Gandhi's disqualification
Vijayawada: AP Congress leaders staged Sankalpa Satyagraha protests all over the state on Sunday against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Parliament.
They flayed the politics of vendetta of the BJP, prime minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah. APCC president and former MLC Gidugu Rudra Raju participated in the protest at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Kaleswara Rao Market in Vijayawada.
Rudra Raju said that Rahul Gandhi’s two-year jail term awarded by a Surat court was not acceptable to the party. While there had been instances of BJP legislators being convicted, their membership in the respective legislatures was not terminated, he pointed out.
He said though the court has given 30 days’ time to Rahul Gandhi to appeal in higher courts, the BJP has shown an unjustified hurry in disqualifying him. The BJP schemed to disqualify Rahul Gandhi to escape from the questions he was asking in Parliament, it was alleged.
APCC working president Janga Gowtham alleged that the BJP was attempting to silence those questioning it. “The BJP is trying to divert public attention from whopping NPAs and the unsustainable public debt, which are a result of the BJP’s wrong policies and crony capitalism,” he said.
CPI secretary K Ramakrishna visited the Sankalpa Satyagraha and extended his party’s solidarity. Congress party Vijayawada city president Narasimha Rao, PCC legal department chairperson V Gurundham and others participated.
Sankalpa Satyagraha protests were held all over the state in which Congress leaders and cadres participated.
