Criminal complaint lodged against Amit Shah in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A criminal complaint was lodged against Union Home Minister Amit Shah by the Congress leaders at High Grounds police station in Bengaluru on Thursday.

In their complaint, they alleged that the Union Minister had made false allegations with an intent of disrupting communal harmony with his speech at a public meeting in Vijayapura on April 25.

Congress leaders led by general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Randeep Singh Surjewala and president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) D.K. Shivakumar alleged that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a speech which lasted for an hour and it aimed at tarnishing the image of Indian National Congress by levelling false and unfounded allegations.

Continuing, they alleged that Amit Shah had stated “If Indian National Congress wins the ensuing elections, then the entire Karnataka will be afflicted with communal riots.”

The Congress leaders observed that his statements were designed to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community which is punishable under section various provisions of Indian Penal Code and Representation of People’s Act.

Later, D.K. Shivakumar told reporters that the Election Commission of India should bar him from conducting campaigning in the ensuing Assembly elections and pointed out that action has been initiated against posts made on social networking sites but the Union Home Minister himself has been allegedly making provocative speech which deserves to be booked under criminal offence.
