Chitradurga: Dismissing all doomsday talk about the future of the Congress-Janata Dal (S) coalition government in the state, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwar insisted here on Tuesday  that it would complete its five-year term. He, however, acknowledged almost in the same breath that no one could predict the future in politics.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who was speaking to reporters in Chitradurga on his way to Koppal from Tumakuru  was responding to a question on former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s reported comments on the survival of the government.

Appearing visibly angry, he retorted,”I am telling you this in the capacity of KPCC president. Both the Congress and JD(S) have arrived at an understanding to run this government for five years  and if you ask the same question over and over again my answer will remain the same.” But then he added ambiguously  that  no one could predict what could happen in politics. On the issue of CM H.D. Kumaraswamy gearing up to present a new budget amid reports of opposition from Mr Siddaramaiah,  he said it was natural for a new government to present its own budget with its own programmes. “It is the tradition to announce the new programmes through the budget. A committee was constituted to prepare the common minimum programme of the coalition government and it will have it ready by this month end. Later, it will be discussed in the coordination committee before being finalised,” he said, adding that without such a programme  it was not possible to present a budget and make financial allocations.

Dr Parameshwar, however, maintained that all popular programmes of the previous government would continue. On appointing district in charge ministers, he said a decision would be taken on this shortly  after consulting the Chief Minister.
