THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The padayatra planned by BJP national president Amit Shah along with state president Kummanam Rajasekharan in Kannur district on September 7 and 8 against the ‘red terror’ may create trouble in the district, it is feared.

Mr  Amit Shah will walk through Pinarayi, the home town of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, where a BJP worker, Remith, was killed last year. How the CPM cadres will respond to his yatra remains uncertain.

Mr Amit Shah will flag off Mr Kummanam’s Janaraksha Yatra from Payyannur on September  7. When the yatra concludes on Septemebr  23 at Putharikandam grounds here,  Mr Amit Shah will join Mr Kummanam at Sreekariyam where RSS worker S. L. Rajesh was killed last month.

But the state leadership wants Mr Amit Shah to accompany the yatra for two more days in between. A senior state leader told DC that  Mr  Shah and Mr Kummanam will take out a  53-km yatra in Kannur during the initial days.

The  state leadership  is yet to get confirmation from Mr Amit Shah’s office whether he will be available for more days in Kerala. A few leaders fear that  Mr Amit Shah’s presence in  Kannur may  aggravate the volatile situation in the district.

“The local people in Kannur will keep off  Sangh Parivar and the  BJP strategy will boomerang. The Sangh Parivar will not succeed in getting more   Ezhava votes in Kannur,” said the BJP leader.
