Mandya makeover: CM HD Kumaraswa says big projects on anvil
Mandya has been selected for implementing Israel model agricultural practices too.
Mysuru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said that he has directed officers to come up with a master plan for the comprehensive development of Mandya district. There are already proposals for various projects worth Rs 1000 crores for the development of Mandya which would be discussed with revenue officers, he said after holding a review meeting on Wednesday.
He said, "I have even told officers to come up with a detailed project report for providing drinking water to all villages in Mandya for which we need Rs 1,007 crores. An amount of Rs 30 crores has been allotted for upgrading the 550 bedded Mandya district hospital to a 700 bedded hospital. Mandya has been selected for implementing Israel model agricultural practices too. I have directed officers to send a proposal for a new veterinary college in the next academic year.
There is a debate on setting up two or three garment factories in the district to help women. I will speak to some investors in this regard." On the recent incident in which a farmer, Nandish and his family had killed themselves, the CM said, "I had told him to be patient when I met him saying I would waive off the loans and resolve the problems of farmers. He took the extreme step under pressure. I have directed officers to give Rs 2 lakh extra along with ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to his family. An individual who had given the family a loan, had forcefully got their land registered in his name. I have directed officers to ensure that the land is returned to Nandish's family."
