Kakinada: Two Town police on Monday took YSRC leader Balla Suribabu into custody on charges of attacking Telugu Desam activists and threatening police personnel.

Suribabu is said to be a strong follower of Kakinada Urban MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy. Police said when Telugu Desam activists Vanapalli Jyothi, Namahashivaya, V. Dalamma and others were campaigning and distributing Babu Surety and Bhavishyattu Guarantee programme pamphlets to people in the 4th division on Sunday, Balla Suribabu, Kampara Babi and other YSRC activists objected to them.

They said TD cannot campaign in the area as it belongs to YSRC and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is helping all the people in the division as well as the city. When the TD leaders continued their campaign, they were attacked by Balla Suribabu and his supporters.

When Vanapalli police personnel rushed to the place, they too were attacked. Following this, the injured TD activists and police personnel were admitted to the Government General Hospital. Balla Suribabu then arrived at the hospital and again threatened both TD workers and police personnel.

Two Town circle inspector B. Nageswara Naick said they have taken Balla Suribabu into custody. The inspector maintained that stringent action will be taken against people who indulge in anti-social activities.
