Raj Bhavan is Praja Bhavan: Tamilisai Soundararajan
In an exclusive interview with Deccan Chronicle, Dr Soundararajan said that Raj Bhavan is a “Praja Bhavan†(People’s House).
Hyderabad: “As a constitutional head and as a common citizen, I can act. I cannot confine myself to the four walls of Raj Bhavan. I will move with the people,” declared Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
In an exclusive interview with Deccan Chronicle, Dr Soundararajan said that Raj Bhavan is a “Praja Bhavan” (People’s House). She said as constitutional head she can meet the people, know about their problems and make efforts to solve them.
“I am receiving memorandums from all organisations and from the people also. I forward each and every memorandum received by me to the concerned authorities, I am also doing follow-up. I am not keeping quiet after forwarding the memorandums,” Dr Soundararajan said.
To illustrate this point she recalled a recent incident: "A farmer came to me and said that he is not getting insurance. Immediately I forwarded the message to my secretary and he forwarded it to the district collector and the farmer got his insurance.”
She said that her main aim is to be useful to society. “I am a positive, friendly and approachable person” and is always aware of her constitutional powers.
Before becoming Governor she had visited Telangana only once or twice to attend medical conferences at Gandhi Medical Collage as she is a doctor.
“I transformed into a person of Telangana after being appointed as Governor and now I am here 24x7 for the people,” she said.
Asked whether her role will be similar to that of a former Governor, Kumudben Joshi, during the N.T. Rama Rao regime, Dr Soundararajan said, “I don’t want similar actions to anyone. I want to act only like Tamilisai. I want to create my own trend. I know my boundaries and responsibilities. I have my own ways of making things happen.”
