KCR's farm sops a cheap stunt: N Uttam Kumar Reddy
The TPCC chief also ridiculed KCR's move to provide insurance cover for farmers.
Hyderabad: TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has termed the sops being announced by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as a cheap political stunt.
Addressing a massive meeting at Tandur in erstwhile Rangareddy district on Tuesday afternoon, as part of the second day of the senior Congress leaders’ Bus Yatra, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said the TRS government neglected the farm sector during the last four years.
“Of an overall allocation of nearly Rs 5 lakh crore in the five budgets presented so far, not a single rupee was spent to help the farmers by pro-curing their produce. Crop loan waiver scheme was implemented in such an erratic manner that farmers remained hoo-ked to their debts for alm-ost four years. However, with elections round the corner, KCR has suddenly developed some sympathy for farmers and is making some announcements,” he said.
Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said that by paying just Rs 4,000 per acre in a season, KCR is trying to make the farmers forget the sufferings which they had gone through the last four years.
The TPCC president said the TRS government did not provide any input, did nothing for the procurement of crops and even remained silent when the Central government denied assistance for damages suffered due to natural calamity.
Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said that nearly 4,000 farmers committed suicide during the last four years due to the negligent attitude of the KCR government.
“By paying Rs 4,000 per acre, KCR cannot get away from the sin of ignoring poor farmers,” he said.
The TPCC chief also ridiculed KCR’s move to provide insurance cover for farmers. He asked as to why insurance cover was not provided from the first year itself. He said KCR’s sympathy for farmers was nothing but a stunt aimed at cheating the farming community, eyeing next election.
Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly K. Jana Reddy said the atte-ndance of people in their public meetings gives a clear cut indication that the Congress is slated to come to power again in the state.
Mr Jana Reddy asked the people and the Congr-ess workers to work hard to bring Congress Raj in the Telangana State as the ruling TRS government has failed in many aspects to fulfil its promises even after four years of rule.
He criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao of deceiving one and all by promising one thing and doing exactly the opposite. He reminded the Chief Minister on his promise of reopening Nizam Sugar factory immediately after coming to power and it has not been implemented yet.
Janareddy said that the TRS leaders are bound to be sent to jail for failing in all their promises including two bed room houses and three acres of land to each Dalit family.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Shabbir Ali accused six Ministers in KCR cabinet as Telangana ‘traitors’ who worked against Telangana statehood and asked the Chief Minister on what has happened to his promise of providing 12 per cent reservations to backward Muslim minorities in the state and what steps he has taken to convince the Central Government in this regard.
