New collector takes charge of Khammam, Palair in focus

The EC had shifted the officials after it found fault with the report sent by Mr Lokesh Kumar on TRS plenary arrangements.

Khammam: Newly-appointed collector Dana Kishore and SP Rema Rajeswari assumed charge on Wednesday replacing D.S. Lokesh Kumar and Shahnawaz Khasim.

Soon after taking charge, the collector directed the revenue officials to submit a report on the effect of the TRS plenary arrangements on the Palair Assembly bypoll. She asked the officials to be vigilant on the developments in the constituency, in light of the Election Commission orders.

The EC had shifted the officials after it found fault with the report sent by Mr Lokesh Kumar on TRS plenary arrangements. The report submitted to the EC had said that the TRS .had completed a major part of the arrangements for its plenary by the time the Palair bypoll was announced. However, the preparations began in earnest after the Commission gave its nod to the plenary, sources said.

The EC was also kept in the dark that three division of Khammam Municipal Corporation are part of the Palair segment. Meanwhile, Anil Kumar Jha, the chief election officer from Karnataka, visited Palair in the capacity of poll observer appointed by the EC and enquired into the allegations made by Telangana Congress leaders. He toured KMC divisions 1, 49 and 50, which are in Palair constituency.
