Jevargi: Former AICC President, Rahul Gandhi, during his election campaign in Jevargi, made several assurances to the people of Kalyana Karnataka (Hyderabad Karnataka) region. The assurances include Special Education Zone and filling up of vacancies in the region.

Rahul recalled the discussions about 371 J (a special status for the six districts of Hyderabad Karnataka), which the then Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani had claimed it was impossible.

He noted that it was implemented after Congress came to power, providing opportunities for thousands of youths to become engineers, doctors, lawyers, and obtain other jobs.

“The truth is that the BJP government is not implementing 371 J properly. Of the Rs. 3,000 crore provided only Rs. 1200 crore has been used. As many as 50,000 jobs are vacant. We will fill 50,000 vacancies once we come to power. A special education zone will be formed due to which IIT and IIM will come here. We will allocate Rs 5,000 crore for this region. Every Gram Panchayat will get Rs 1 crore,” he added.

“We have made five guarantees for the people of Karnataka- Griha Lakshmi, Griha Jyoti, Anna Bhagya, Yuva Nidhi, and free travel for women in government buses. BJP cannot come up with such programs. Modi Ji was right when he said this cannot be done. It cannot be done by BJP, the party that steals 40 percent (commission),” he mocked.

Rahul expressed confidence that the Congress would come to power in Karnataka and asked the people to ensure that the party gets more than 150 seats and bring down BJP’s numbers to 40. He pledged that a Congress government in Karnataka would be for the weaker section, poor, small businessmen, and laborers.

Due to heavy rain, Rahul had to postpone his program. The program was scheduled at noon. He attempted to reach Jevargi by chopper but was unable to land, so he traveled to the venue by road. Despite the weather conditions, people attended in good numbers to listen to him.
