Cleanliness drive on war footing in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high level meeting presided over by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday decided to implement a comprehensive programme from ward level onwards to check communicable disease ahead of  monsoon season .

The decision was taken at the meeting attended by ministers, senior officials and heads of various department. Health minister K K Shylaja called upon the departments to work in a coordinated manner to prevent deaths due to communicable and infectious diseases during  monsoon period.

On the World Environment Day on June 5, cleanliness drive would be launched across the state. Since pre-monsoon cleanliness drive has already got delayed, the officials should pay attention to the day to day day cleaning operations, she added.

She said the district level meetings headed ministers will be completed before  May 31. The chief secretary will coordinate these activities at the state level and MPs, MLAs, local bodies office bearers will participate.

The minister directed the officials to check the spread of dengue in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts. She hoped the political parties would take the initiative to remove publicity material including flex boards. To ensure continuous supply of medicines in hospitals, the government has been directed to monitor the supply and demand of drugs on regular basis.
