Congress Leaders Barge into GHMC Office, Taken Into Preventive Custody
Hyderabad: Scores of congress party leaders and activists were taken into custody as preventive measures after the Congress party leaders tried to barge into GHMC office, demanding compensation of Rs 10,000 to flood victims in Hyderabad.
The Congress party called for staging a protest to lay siege to the GHMC office on Friday alleging that the ruling BRS government failed to provide proper facilities for flood victims in the city.
Following the protest call, hundreds of activists and leaders gathered at Telangana martyrs Memorial. After paying tributes to the martyrs, a massive rally was carried out from Telangana martyrs to GHMC office. Meanwhile, the police allowed the protest rally.
The Congress party leaders and activists, who reached the GHMC office, tried to barge into the GHMC office. Police forces deployed at the GHMC office averted the Congress party's attempts to barge into the GHMC office. Irate over the incident, Congress leaders sat on the road leading to the main gate of GHMC office.
As a preventive measure, police took into custody several leaders and activists. They shifted them to different police stations. The Congress leaders shouted slogans against Municipal Minister K T Rama Rao and the ruling BRS government for failing to provide proper facilities to citizens during monsoon.
Senior Congress leader Anjan Kumar Yadav demanded that IT and MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao tender his resignation for failing to provide facilities to citizens during the monsoon season. A number of colonies were submerged with flood water and the government and GHMC officials failed to take precautionary measures.
"The Government must announce Rs 10,000 compensation for flood victims in Hyderabad. We will intensify the protest in near future if the government is not providing compensation for victims," he warned.
